‘Free’ diet pills warning in Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards officers have issued a warning about the hidden costs of ordering ‘free’ trial diet supplements online.

Officers say people have ordered the pills on the assumption they were only paying for the postage fee, and then subsequently found further substantial payments taken out of their bank accounts.

A spokesman said: “Trading Standards always advise people to read any terms and conditions provided before making a purchase, otherwise you may find yourself locked into a lengthy expensive contract.

“Other websites offering similar deals can also just be out and out scams.

“Always ensure you have a UK contact address / telephone number for the trader in case any problems arise. If traders are based abroad it may be difficult to pursue your civil rights.”

If you require consumer advice or wish to raise concerns about a trader please report the matter to the Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 040506.
