Free car seat advice from road safety officers

Road safety officers will be out and about over the next few days offering advice about child car seats.

The free advice, which has been organised by the county council, will be given at events across the region.

Zena Oliver, principal highways safety officer at the council, said that safety checks have shown as man as 73% of seats were fitted or adjusted incorrectly.

She said: “This can sometimes be a result of the busy lives we all live nowadays, where child seats are moved from car to car, or simply that parents either haven’t been shown how to install the seats correctly, have ignored instructions or have bought second-hand and the original packaging and instructions are missing.

“If child car seats are not properly attached to the car in which they are being used then they can give little or none of the protection they are designed to provide.

“Our drop-in sessions are an ideal opportunity for parents and carers to get information and advice about child seats and in-car safety generally.”

The team will be in action at Lark in The Park in West Bridgford on Wednesday, August 5, Mansfield Carr Bank Fun Day on Thursday 6, Worksop Library on Thursday 6, Sainsbury’s in Mansfield on Tuesday 11, and Arnot Hill Play Day Wednesday August 12.
