The Forest Town Branch of the Women’s Institute has hosted their annual Summer Fair at Samworth Church Academy.
The event raised a whopping £971 which Elaine Pinnick, President of the Branch says will be put to good use to enrich the meetings that they hold each month at the Academy on Sherwood Hall Road in Forest Town. She said, “The money helps us book great speakers for our meetings and perhaps our members can enjoy a glass of wine or orange juice during the meeting!” Elaine says that some of the money will be used for centenary celebrations as the Women’s Institute reaches its 100th year in 2015.
Christine Cawthorne who has been a member of the Women’s Institute for over twenty years says the Forest Town Branch events are always colourful and great fun. “We are very well supported by the people of Forest Town who give generously of their time and money. It is very friendly; it really wouldn’t matter where you sat at events like this as everyone is so welcoming.”
The Summer Fair had cake stalls, tombola, raffles and a book stall, jewellery and scarves for sale to help raise the money. The thriving branch now has 65 members and welcomes members of the community to its meetings and events.
