editorial image

Southwell Minster will be welcoming food fanatics next weekend when it joins in the town’s Bramley Apple Festival and hosts its very own food and drink fair in the Cathedral Nave.

Visitors to the Cathedral on Saturday 20th October from 10-4pm will have a chance to see a range of cookery demonstration running throughout the day, from bread-making to flower arranging using fruit.

The Cathedral’s Festival of Food and Drink will compliment apple themed activities taking place across the town throughout the weekend, as it celebrates its unique Apple Heritage as the home of the Bramley Apple.

In the Minster there will be over 30 Food and Drink stands, featuring some of the best rural small producers and retailers, where visitors will be able to view, taste and buy locally

produced foods such as pancakes, ice-cream, cakes, breads, jams and pickles, pork pies, cheeses, apple drinks, cordials and ceramics. In addition to the usual stalls there will be a large Apple display from John Hempsall’s Heritage Orchard and there will be children’s apple related craft and cookery activities.

Marketing Manager at the Cathedral, Kathryn Anderson said: “We have a huge range of stands and stall holders again this year with some who are coming for the first time. It offers a great day out for anyone to come and enjoy the food and demonstrations – all in the stunning setting of Southwell Minster.”

Various cookery demonstrations are planned throughout the day, when visitors will be able to gather inspiration or quick recipes ideas and tips. There will be a pork pie making demonstration this year. All the demonstrations will use local food products, as well as recipes using the famous Bramley Apple.

Entrance to the food fair is £1.
