Firework fun at Bolsover Castle

Fireworks will return to Bolsover Castle this year in a dramatic display choreographed to classical music on Friday 4th November.

The Bolsover Castle fireworks display was one of the most popular in the region with thousands of people packing the grounds of the castle to see the show. After a break of two years the fireworks are back and English Heritage is marking the occasion with an event telling the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.

Says English Heritage events manager Lucy Hutchings, “We are thrilled to be able to bring fireworks back to Bolsover Castle. It is such a wonderful and dramatic venue to watch a fireworks display with its hilltop setting and castle walls. To celebrate the return of the fireworks to Bolsover Castle we will be taking visitors back in time to the period of the Gunpowder Plot. This will be a fireworks show with a difference bringing the story of Guy Fawkes to life through performance, music and special effects.

“Roving plotters will be on the look out for children to join their gang and causing mischief as they plan to blow up Parliament. Peterkin the jester will entertain the crowds with his school for fools and impressive fire breathing show. As a warning to would be plotters, the executioner will be at the gallows regaling people with horrific tales of Guy Fawkes’ execution along with gruesome punishments from the period. There will also be roving musicians retelling the story of Guy Fawkes to popular music in a performance entitled ‘kerboom!’.

The castle will be illuminated and there will be a dramatic bonfire projection. The main event, the fireworks show set to classical music, will be at 7pm with events and performances before and after the fireworks.

Friday 4th November gates open at 6pm, fireworks start at 7pm and event closes at 9pm. There will be a range of catering on offer as well as the castle gift shop and cafe.
