At the Nottinghamshire Royal British Legion County Conference the Farnsfield & District Branch were runners-up in the Poppy Shield (large branch) after a 76.6 per cent increase in their Poppy Appeal donations over the past three years.
Branch Poppy Appeal organiser Bob Burrows said: “The increase in donations is because of the superb efforts made by all our collectors and to the unfailing generosity of the public which we are so very grateful for.”
After winning the County Membership Cup for the past three years, the Farnsfield Branch was runners-up this year.
Branch membership secretary, Trevor Wilds, said “Whilst it is sad that we did not retain the cup, it is pleasing to know that other branches have followed our example and have been successful at recruiting new members.
“Nottinghamshire is bucking the National trend by recruiting more members than it is losing. We are continuing our efforts to recruit new members and welcome enquiries from anyone wanting to know how to join us”.
The branch meets at Farnsfield Cricket Club at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Visitors are welcome to attend.
