When one woman wanted to reconnect with her WRAF buddy, who she had not seen in more than 20 years, she was delighted that after an article in the Chad has helped her find her friend.
Gillian Luckett, reached out last month after she attended her Women’s Royal Air Force reunion and the woman she trained with, Gillian Partride, now Goundry, who was from Mansfield was not there.
Following the article she was contacted by an Ashlee Stokes who used the Facebook page Long Lost Family Nottinghamshire to track her down.
Gillain Luckett, who now lives in Suffolk, said: “I found an address for her and wrote to her first class and she was ringing me up the next day.
“I really wanted to get back in touch with and I’m so glad people were able to reconnect us, when we got talking it was like no time had passed.”
Both the Gillians met in April 1974 at basic training down in Hereford which lasted for six weeks.
“We chatted for ages and it was lovely.”
Since then Gillian Goundry’s niece added her on facebook so the pair could look at more up-to date pictures of each other.
Gillian said: “When I spoke to her she was saying it was like talking about another life when we reminisced about military training.
“I suppose I got lucky, some people want to be contacted and others don’t lucky Gillian was happy to hear from me.”
Since then Gillian, 60, has found a diary of her training time which has addresses of her fellow comrades and is hoping to locate more people she has lost touch with over the years.
