A Forest Town conservation group has launched an urgent appeal to raise funds to buy a local nature reserve.
The Forest Town Nature Conservation Group has launched the bid to purchase the Spa Ponds Nature Reserve from its current owner in a bid to improve the site and community access .
The group told Chad that the private owner has now agreed the sale and they are working with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust to further develop the reserve.
Group chairman Shlomo Dowen said: “This presents us with a very special opportunity.
“It is not often that a community invests so demonstrably in their future by taking ownership of their local nature reserve - returning this land to community ownership 700 years after it was commandeered by King Edward II to make the original ponds as part of Clipstone Park.”
The appeal fund to purchase the site currently stands at around £12,000 towards the £15,000 needed.
And the group has now launched an appeal to raise the remaining £3,000 needed to buy Spa Pond, which is located off Clipstone Drive near Garibaldi Wood.
Donations can be made by sending a cheque made out to: “Forest Town Nature Conservation Group” and posted to: Spa Ponds Appeal c/o 25 The Birchlands, Forest Town, Mansfield NG19 0ER, or by bank transfer to the conservation group’s bank account - sort code: 089299, account number: 65459324.
