Free garden waste bins to be trialled

Ashfield District Council is hoping to encourage householders to recycle by providing free garden waste bin service for a two-month period.

The service will be offered to one hundred properties in areas of the district which, historically, have had a poor take-up.

The initiative is in support of a Government target of increasing household recycling to 50 per cent by 2020.

A report to full council by Ashfield’s member for Environment & Community Protection read: “This has enabled residents to gain an understanding of their garden waste disposal requirements prior to subscribing.”
