Edwinstowe's Got Talent show kicks off Christmas switch on event tomorrow

Husband and wife John and Sonja Downie have organised an '˜Edwinstowe's Got Talent' show to kick off the town's Christmas lights celebrations tomorrow.

The free event, which takes place on the courtyard of the Bargain Booze Select Convenience on Church Street at 5.30pm on Thursday November 24, was inspired by the popular ITV programme and hopes to uncover some hidden talent in the area.

John and Sonja who run Bargain Booze are inviting local residents to show off their special skills in front of a live audience, and already have a local barber-turned-magician, singers and gymnasts lined up to take part.

Three residents and regular customers, Pat Green, Shirley Jolly and Beryl Doyle, have been recruited as independent judges, and the evening will be compered by local couple Paula and Aiden Roker.

Franchisees John and Sonja Downie have owned the Bargain Booze Select Convenience for the last three years, and have run events to coincide with Edwinstowe town’s Christmas lights switch-on every year.

Each time the couple fundraise for a different charity, and Thursday evening’s donations are going to support Sepsis treatment in the UK.

Prizes such as an iPad mini and exclusive food hampers will be given out to winners and runners up, and refreshments such as coffee, hot chocolate and mince pies will be available to all guests during the evening.

John Downie, Franchisee and Owner, said: “We’ve been planning the event for weeks and can’t wait to see what special talents we uncover. Getting involved in wider community initiatives like this is really important to both of us, and we hope Edwinstowe locals come along and use it as an excuse to get into the festive spirit.”
