Entries are now open for the Great Notts Bike Ride, which will form the finale of next year’s Cycle Live weekend on Sunday 23rd June.
The popular bike ride, which is now in its 32nd year, promises to be bigger and better than ever in 2013, featuring three distances; a 100 mile sportive, a signature 50 mile route and a 25 mile ride, all starting and finishing from Nottingham’s Victoria Embankment.
Chris Simon, Director at Perfect Motion who organises the ride, commented: “This year’s event created a real buzz in Nottingham and we want to make it even bigger next year. We have listened carefully to participant feedback and will be making positive changes to make the three distances even better in 2013 to ensure entrants can get the best out of the rides, no matter what their age or ability.
“People entering before the end of January 2013 will be able to take advantage of the discount early bird prices, so I would encourage those planning to take part to forget the winter weather and enter now.”
The Nottingham City Ride will move from Sunday to Saturday next year, allowing organisers to add in a longer distance route to make it more appealing as a family day out. The ride will include two predominantly off-road routes of either sixor 12 miles, starting and finishing at the Victoria Embankment with a feed station en route to give participants a similar experience to those taking part in the Great Notts Bike Ride.
Chris added: “Over the years, we have seen an increase in families taking part in the Great Notts Bike Ride and we were keen to develop an event that had more to offer, as well as enticing even more families to come along and take part. Moving the Nottingham City Ride to Saturday means that we can focus on putting on two longer distance routes so that families and first-time cyclists can really make a day of it”.
For those that don’t want to ride, the Cycle Live event village will offer a whole host of free family fun across the entire weekend, including live music and stalls, so there will be something for everyone.
Participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship money for the official event charities, with every penny raised donated in equal share to Cerebral Palsy Sport, CLIC Sargent and Nottinghamshire Scouts.
Early bird entries will end on Thursday 31st January. For more information, or to secure your place and take advantage of the early bird offer, go to www.cyclelivenottingham.co.uk.
