WHILST I am totally against dropping of litter and fly tipping on Mansfield’s streets and open spaces I am bemused by an annual event which promotes a display of dual standards.
Walking down my street and on to Newgate Lane I viewed a plethora of spent firework rocket sticks and cases. If I were to walk to the Market Place and drop these on the floor I would be observed on CCTV or spotted by a warden and subject to a fixed penalty for littering.
Has Mansfield District Council not realised the revenue which could be collected by attaching the fixed penalty to each rocket sold? This would be much easier than tracking each rocket back to its launch venue, studying trajectory and windspeed etc.
What’s my rather sarcastic point? One rule for some...!
