ALMOST 1,000 people gathered at St Mary’s Church in Sutton to pay their respects to two young friends who died in a house fire.
Huthwaite pals Gareth Toye (22) and Daniel Sadowyj (25) lost their lives when the home they shared on Sutton Road caught fire on 2nd April.
In last week’s Chad the families of both Gareth and Daniel paid tribute to the ‘fun loving’ pair as an investigation by Nottinghamshire’s coroner into the blaze continues.
And on Friday it was the turn of the whole community to say its goodbyes at St Mary’s, before a burial at Sutton Cemetery.
Paul Brown, managing director of A Wass Funeral Directors Ltd, said yesterday that just under 1,000 residents attended the funeral.
“They came out in their numbers,” he said. “It was impossible to get everyone in the church so several hundred gathered outside.”
Last week Gareth and Daniel’s families spoke about the pain of losing them.
Daniel’s mum Yvonne Sadowyj said: “They lived together, partied together and died together.”
Gareth and Daniel, who had both recently become dads, met at Ashfield School as teenagers.
Gareth’s mum Caroll Toye said the family will remember him as a ‘lovable rogue with the cheekiest smile’, while Daniel’s dad Mick described his son as ‘one of the nicest lads you will ever come across’.
Hundreds of friends of the pair have also left their own tributes on social networking website Facebook.
