Dickens celebrations at museum

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of England’s greatest ever writers, Mansfield Museum is holding five days of Dickens-themed activities for children during the half-term holiday week (Monday 13th – Friday 17th).

From Monday to Thursday, children will be able to have a go at making a variety of Dickens-era knick-knacks, including paper toys, greetings cards, toy theatres and keepsake boxes.

On the Friday, Boz’s Big Birthday Bash will feature storytelling, large-scale illustration, silhouette making and, possibly, gruel making.

The events include:

Monday 13th – Have a go at making paper toys.

Tuesday 14th – Design your own greetings card for someone special.

Wednesday 15th – Bring Dickens’ timeless stories to life on your very own cardboard stage with a toy theatre.

Thursday 16th – Make keepsake boxes.

Friday 17th – Boz’s Big Birthday Bash

Sessions are 10am–12noon, just drop in for as little or as long as you like.

The cost is £1 per person. There is no need to book, but places are limited so you may have to wait on the day for a place to become available. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times
