Young people will also be elected to represent looked after children.

Elected youth council members get involved with decision-making and have their say about issues that affect young people.

Coun Damien Greenhalgh, Derbyshire County Council’s deputy cabinet member for children and young people, said: “If you know a young person who cares about what’s going on in their area, make sure they nominate themselves for election.

“Youth councillors don’t need to be into politics or be top of the class – we need young people who really want to make a difference.”
