SERVICE personnel, veterans, civic dignitaries, cadets, members of the uniformed services and residents gathered in Sutton today to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Revd David James led a poignant service at St Mary Magdalene Church in which he urged the large congregation to think about those who had given up their lives for their country, particularly those who came from Sutton.
Afterwards, the Blidworth Welfare Band led a parade up to the Cenotaph where a service was held and representatives from different groups in the community laid wreaths of poppies.
The congregation fell silent at 11am as they remembered those who had sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
This year, Remembrance Sunday fell on 11th November, which is also Armistice Day. This day is commemorated as the point at which the fighting of the First World War finally ended.
