A Mansfield man who punched a woman in the face while she was driving will learn his fate next month.

Mansfield Magistrates’ Court heard how Peter King (49) of Ilion Street, assaulted the woman following an argument that started in Tesco.

King had met the woman on a dating website only five weeks before, but she was already concerned about his behaviour in drink.

On 3rd August, they had gone to the supermarket for him to buy more drink, and she walked out after he made a sarcastic comment.

The argument continued in the car and at one point she thought she spotted a police vehicle and got out to speak to an officer, but realised it was an empty paramedic’s car.

When she got back in the car the arguing started again before he struck her.

Marjorie Kirkham-Smith, for the CPS, said the woman, who suffers from mental health issues, did not want to see King anymore for fear it could set her back.

Pleading guilty to assault, King will appear back in court for sentencing on 17th September.
