Two charged over robberies at Alfreton and South Normanton bookmakers

Two men have been charged in connection with robberies at two bookmakers in Alfreton and South Normanton.

The first incident took place at around 9.30pm on Friday, 31st January when staff at Ladbrokes, Market Street, South Normanton were threatened with a knife and forced to hand over cash.

A second robbery occurred at Ladbrokes, Nottingham Road, Alfreton at 5.20pm on Sunday, 9th February.

Members of staff were made to hand over cash by men carrying a knife. A customer was injured during the robbery.

Gavin Barnes (35) and Alan Bearder (30), both from Langley Mill, have been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possessing an offensive weapon and one count of assault.

They appeared before magistrates in Chesterfield today, Tuesday, 11th February, and have been remanded in custody to appear at Derby Crown Court on 25th February.
