A thief has stolen a charity money box in Sutton.

The cash was taken from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, on Market Street, yesterday morning.

It is unsure how much cash was in the box - which was bright yellow and has CAB written on it.

Sue Davis, chief executive of the branch, said she and the rest of the team are devastated.

She said: “It’s terrible that someone has taken the cash.

“The tin was chained to the reception desk and there is normally always someone there. But people may have to move away from that area to help people, go and photocopy documents, or nip to the toilet.

“That is when it must have happened. It has really made us all feel sick.”

It was taken while the morning session was taking place. Miss Davis said it was a really busy morning.

Miss Davis added: “I just don’t know who would have taken it, was it someone who came to ask for advice? Or someone who just came in for the money?”

She hoped the box would be returned. The cash raised went towards running costs of the service.

A spokesperson for the police said anyone with information should call 101 with reference 459 of 7th October.
