Sutton litter lout hit with £555 fine

A SUTTON man has been ordered to pay a total of £555.50 in fines and costs for littering a parking ticket in the town.

A parking enforcement officer issued Robert Ryan, of Blackwell Road, with a parking ticket on Forest Street in the town on 13th December 2010, which he refused to accept and threw on the floor.

After failure to pay a fixed penalty notice of £75 for littering, Ashfield District Council issued prosecution proceedings and Ryan appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 27th July, where he denied the offence of littering a parking ticket.

At the subsequent trial last Wednesday, he accepted that a parking ticket had been issued to him, that he refused to accept the parking ticket and tried to give it back to the parking enforcement officer - but he denied littering the ticket.

Magistrates found him guilty of littering and he was sentenced to a fine of £75, costs of £465.50 and a victim surcharge of £15 totalling £555.50.
