Shoplifter was unable to claim benefits

A Mansfield man who was unable to claim benefits resorted to shoplifting, a court heard.

Jacek Andrysiak pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court to stealing four cans of lager, a bottle of whisky and two jars of mayonnaise.

Andrysiak, 32 was caught with the items valued at £14.50 as he tried to leave the B&M Bargains store on December 23.

The court was told Andrysiak was in financial difficulties because he had no income and was unable to make a claim for benefits as he could not provide proper ID to the Department for Work and Pensions.

Andrysiak, who listened to the case via an interpreter said he had taken the items for his own personal use.

He was given a 12 month conditional discharge.
