A Shirebrook woman who claimed over £37,000 in benefits she was not entitled to over a three-year period has been given a suspended 18-week prison sentence.

Kirsty Winson (24) of Olive Avenue, pleaded guilty during a hearing at Derby Crown Court to falsely claiming benefits and must also carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in addition to the prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

An investigation saw Winson claim housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support as a single parent between January 2010 and October 2013 while she had been living with a partner who was in employment.
