Questions asked over shot badger

The RSPCA is concerned for the welfare of Warsop’s badgers after the body of one was found shot dead.

The incident was reported to the RSPCA by police on 12th February and an inspector is now appealing for information. The dead badger was found on a public footpath near to the Vale Hotel, Carter Lane, Warsop Vale. Keith Ellis, RSPCA inspector, said: “We are very concerned that someone is using a shot gun illegally and is shooting at badgers. Badgers and their setts are protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, In England and Wales. It is an offence to intentionally kill, injure or take a badger, except under licence. Shooting a badger without a licence is an offence and punishable in the courts and we will do all we can to bring the offenders to justice.”
