A prolific thief who plagued shops in Mansfield and Ashfield has been sent to prison.

Sean Michael Vince (29), of Hartley Road, Nottingham, appeared before Mansfield Magistrate’s Court on 26th August.

The court heard that Vince was responsible for thefts in Peacocks, Mansfield, Midfields Store, Annesley, Co-op, Huthwaite and Wilkinson’s, Sutton-in-Ashfield, in the first four months of 2014. The items he stole totalled more than £750.

He was arrested after intelligence identified him as the offender and he was tracked down to a house in Radford.

After pleading guilty in court he was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison.

Police Sergeant Martin Severn said: “Vince has been committing theft offences in Mansfield and Ashfield for months and we have been working hard to arrest him and secure a conviction.

“Retail crime is unacceptable and I hope this shows people that Nottinghamshire Police are continuing to ensure people can go about their daily business without fear of becoming a victim of crime.”
