THIEVES planning a spot of car window shopping this Christmas are being warned to watch their backs - for Nottinghamshire Police’s autocrime cops will be watching.
Despite successful work to drive down thefts from vehicles, with incidents across the county falling by 25 per cent this year, police are gearing up for the Christmas period and the autocrime spike it inevitably brings.
When a vehicle theft is reported, a response officer attends the scene and conducts the initial investigation.
If there is evidence that could lead to the identification of the offender, the job is passed to a Converter Team, a group of detectives familiar with criminals in the area.
Det Insp Caroline Racher, force lead for the Converter Teams, said: “This is an excellent start to the season, with the message that we are coming down hard on thieves being heard loud and clear.”
