Motorist crashed into lamppost in Derbyshire

A motorist who smashed her car into a lamppost and failed to provide a urine sample is due to be sentenced.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, August 13, how Sarah Louise Roberts, 37, of Westdale Road, Jacksdale, had been driving in Pinxton, when she lost control of her car and collided with a lamppost.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Miss Roberts was in the driver’s seat and was agitated with slurred speech. Police were concerned about her demeanour to carry out an impairment test.

“She was swaying during a walk and turn test and she was unable to stand on one leg and was swaying excessively.”

Roberts was taken to a police station after the crash in May and a request was made for an analysis for drugs. Mrs Allsop explained urine was requested but Roberts did not provide samples.

Roberts told police she had gone out for cigarettes and was looking for a lighter when an animal appeared in front of her car and caused the collision.

The defendant was found guilty of three motoring offences in her absence after she originally failed to attend a trial on August 5.

She was found guilty of driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance, and failing to provide a specimen.

Denny Lau, defending, said Roberts, has turned her life round and completed a course to work in the security industry. Her case was adjourned until Friday, August 15, for sentencing.
