Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, July 1, how Derek Turner, 67, of Boythorpe Road, Chesterfield, allegedly drove into the steward as she was trying to stop traffic using a private access road at a car boot sale near Tesco Extra, in Chesterfield.

Prosecuting solicitor Angela Hadfield said the complainant’s role was to stop traffic using the private access road and she claimed she had tried to explain the road was closed before the defendant allegedly knocked her to the ground.

Mr Turner chose not to enter a plea at this stage of legal proceedings.

Defence solicitor Annette Thomas agreed the matter should be dealt with at a crown court.

Magistrates committed the case to be heard at Derby Crown Court on October 28.
