Men held in custody over Sutton Samurai sword attack

Two men have appeared in court over a violent attack in Sutton in which a man was attacked by a Samurai sword and baseball bat.

Mark Malone (26) of Heanor Walk, Mansfield, and Joe Cull (23) of no fixed address, both appeared separately at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 23rd May.

Both are charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Curtis Parr (31) at a flat on Westbourne Road at around 9pm on Wednesday, 14th May.

Mr Parr suffered lacerations to his forearm, a broken forearm and a stab wound to his upper abdomen. He was treated at hospital but later discharged.

Already in custody, Cull appeared first. He spoke only to confirm his name and no plea was entered.

Malone, also in custody, appeared later in the morning and he spoke to confirm his name and address. Again, no plea was entered.

Both were denied bail and are due to appear via videolink at Nottingham Crown Court on 6th June.
