Jason Shaw, 25, of Spa Close, Sutton, pleaded guilty to the offence after he was found to be twice over the legal limit when ordering food in the early hours of Saturday 11 July.

Mansfield Magistrates’ Court heard how staff at McDonalds, Kingsmill Road East, realised that Mr Shaw was under the influence of alcohol around 3am.

They then took his order and told him to park his car in the waiting bay and they would bring out his food when it was ready.

The police were then called whilst Shaw sat and waited for them without knowing.

It was then heard how Mr Shaw - who previously had no points on his license - remained calm when the police arrived to interview him.

Defending himself in court today (July 29), Shaw said: “I’ve never been in trouble before.

“It was such a silly mistake.”

He was sentenced to a 20 month driving ban and has to complete a drink driver rehabilitation course.

He was also ordered to pay £499 in court charges.
