A MANSFIELD Woodhouse woman who put her friend in hospital after accidentally striking her in the head with a glass bottle after a drinking spree has been told to pay £300 compensation.

Jessica McCann (26) had spent the afternoon of 27th April drinking with her friends before the group went back to her Leeming Lane South home.

During an argument, McCann’s brother threw a telephone at her and she reacted by chucking a lager bottle back at him but he ducked out of the way and it hit her friend near the eye as she passed by the doorway.

The female victim was left bleeding and needed around six to seven stitches after being transferred from King’s Mill Hospital to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Her solicitor Sulma Mansuri said it was a complete accident and the bottle was aimed at her brother.

“There was no criminal intent here, it was just an accident with tragic circumstances,” she said.

McCann, who also gave medical assistance at the scene and rang 999, was also given a 12-month conditional discharge at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.
