Mansfield Subway drunk smashed till

.

.

A drunk reveller who smashed a till in a Subway takeaway when he says they refused him access to the toilet was made to pay out £882.

Steve Wright (31) of Forest Road, Skegby, entered the shop on Mansfield’s Leeming Lane in the early hours of 5th May when his friend had gone in to buy a sandwich.

CCTV showed Wright swaying in drink as spoke to a member of staff behind the counter. He is then seen punching a cookie stand on the counter and pushing the till screen towards the staff member.

Admitting criminal damage at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, his solicitor Mark Stocks said his client accepted being drunk.

But he said that Wright had entered the shop to speak with his friend, and says he then asked permission to use the toilet.

He claims he was then told it was for customers only, which angered him and caused the confrontation.

Wright, who has no previous convictions, was fined £270 and told to pay £85 costs and a £27 victim surcharge.

He was also told he must pay £500 compensation towards fixing the till, which is worth £1,500.
