Mansfield prisoner is recaptured after absconding from jail

Steven Smith was reported missing from the open prison on the evening of Tuesday, 11th November.

An appeal was circulated for information on the whereabouts of the 22-year-old, who was serving part of a five-year sentence for robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Smith, whose last known address was in Mansfield, was arrested in Derby on Wednesday afternoon and has since been charged with escaping from lawful custody.

He was due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today Thursday, 13th November.
