Mansfield police inspector further remanded on sex charges

A SENIOR Mansfield police officer has appeared at Crown Court today charged with sexual offences against a child.

Inspector Russell Dew (44), who was based at Mansfield Police Station, spoke only to confirm his name and was remanded into custody until 24th October.

He is accused of two counts of sexual activity with a child, which are alleged to have taken place in Newark last year.

Dew has worked on a number of high profile investigations and was formerly local area commander for Ashfield South.

The hearing at Sheffield Crown Court was told his next appearance was likely to be at Derby Crown Court.
