A MANSFIELD pensioner died after suffering a head injury following a fall at King’s Mill Hospital, an inquest was told.
Gordon Ramsdale (78) was being treated for a chest infection before he passed away on 11th October, 2009.
Mr Ramsdale was found on the floor next to his bed by deputy ward leader Patricia Middleton in the early hours of the morning.
It is believed that he had climbed out of bed and then fallen to the floor and banged his head, causing the brain injury known as a subdural haematoma.
The inquest was told that Mr Ramsdale, who had a history of heart disease, made several attempts to climb out of the bed in the days before his death.
Patrica Middleton told the inquest that the hospital’s policy on falls risk assessment had been updated with more frequent checks since Mr Ramsdale’s death.
Stephanie Haskey, assistant deputy coroner for Nottinghamshire, recorded a verdict of accidental death.
