Mansfield heroin addict jailed after stealing jeans

A HEROIN addict was sent to jail for 90 days after stealing two pairs of jeans to feed her habit.

Mansfield magistrates were told last Wednesday how the clothes were recovered from Carrie Anne Jones by staff outside Store 21 on Union Street in the town.

They approached and searched the woman - who was with a man at the time of the incident - after seeing her put the items of clothing into her handbag.

Jones (24), of Commercial Gate, Mansfield, admitted the theft, which she committed while serving a community order.

Prosecutor Neil Hollett told magistrates: “She admitted going into the shop with her boyfriend and stealing the jeans to raise some cash.”

In mitigation, Chris Perry said Jones and her partner were both dependant on heroin and it was harder for her to come off the drug with a partner still using it.

He said: “She is very realistic about her position and has packed her things and brought them with her today (to court).”

Jones also admitted a charge of breaching her community order by failing to attend two appointments.

Magistrates gave Jones 90 days in prison.
