Insp David Wilkes said on Monday evening that detectives “are investigating events leading upto the boy sustaining stab wounds”.
Police were called to the house - reported locally to be in the Frederick Street / Bowling Street area - at just before 1.30pm.
The boy, who police said had serious injuries, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where he is undergoing treatment. His relatives are with him at the Nottingham hospital.
Insp Wilkes added that a 51-year-old man has been arrested under suspicion of assault and will be questioned by detectives. Police did not say if the man was known to the boy and his family.
