MANSFIELD: Assaulted man’s condition deteriorates

The condition of a Mansfield man who was admitted to hospital suffering from severe injuries is deteriorating, police have confirmed today (Friday 13th December).

Emiel Blankert was admitted to King’s Mill Hospital on Monday night with injuries to his face and chest.

Officers investigating how he came to be injured are now convinced he was assaulted.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Heydon said: “We are trying to establish what happened to Emiel, who is currently in hospital with significant injuries. As a result he is in a critical condition and, at this stage, it is getting worse not better.

“Can you assist us with our enquiries into this assault? We are particularly interested in Emiel’s movements on Monday afternoon. Did you see him? Did you see anything unusual in the Ladybrook area?

“We know Emiel went into The Ladybrook pub in Ladybrook Lane that afternoon. Were you in or around the pub at this time? If you have any information call us.”

Emiel, 48, and originally from Holland. He is white, around 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build. He has green eyes and collar-length brown hair.

Two women, aged 48 and 27, and a 21-year-old man have been arrested as part of the investigation. They have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Det Chf Insp Heydon said: “Serious violent incidents of this nature are rare so we are determined to locate anyone who witnessed the events.

“I would urge those in the area who have CCTV cameras to check their footage from over the weekend and particularly Monday afternoon. Is there anything on there that could help our inquiry?”
