Man who punched through glass panel at pub pays an expensive penalty

Stuart John Searle of Terrace Road, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a glass panel in the door of the Waterfront pub in Worksop.

Magistrates were told Searle 39 was agitated and using obscene language when he punched a door panel five times at the pub on the night of 18th April.

A door supervisor saw Searle smash straight through the glass

As the supervisor went to stop him, Searle saw him coming and walked outside onto Bridge Place and then into the nearby Matalan car park, where he started kicking railings, again shouting and swearing

He was arrested and taken to the police station.

When he was interviewed he said he had been drinking at a public house where his girlfriend worked behind the bar.

They had argued and she had ended their relationship.

He said someone had bought him whisky which he was not used to.

Hee had punched the door in angry frustration and had not meant to damage the panel.

He did not normally drink spirits and had been drunk, emotional and stupid when he committed the offence.

Searle was ordered to pay compensation 0f £140, court costs of £85, a fine of £130, a victim surcharge of £20 and a criminal court charge of £150.
