Man ‘passed envelope containing spent shotgun cartridge’ in Mansfield court

.

.

A man accused of passing an envelope to a defendant in court that contained a spent shotgun cartridge is to appear before magistrates next month.

Calvin Madin (48), who gave his address as Letton Road, Shipdham in Norfolk, appeared in custody before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

He is facing two charges including causing alarm or distress to a male, and using insulting words or behaviour towards a female.

The incident related to a case at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court the day before, when he is alleged to have threatened the man, and passed the envelope to the woman, who had been a defendant in an ongoing case.

Mr Madin was then arrested in the courthouse. He denies both charges.

He was released on bail providing he stays away from Nottinghamshire unless appearing in court.

He is due to appear before Nottingham magistrates on 3rd September after Mansfield magistrates said it was not appropriate that they deal with the case because the allegations relate to the Rosemary Street premises.
