A police spokesman said the victim suffered minor injuries and shock.

A spokesman for the taxi firm 6five2’s, said the taxi was hailed at a Sutton taxi rank after which the threats took place.

He said the man was arrested after he ran off when the driver, who has not been named, stopped to buy chewing gum for him in Chesterfield.

Speaking this morning (8th September), he added: “It was very frightening for the driver. It is appalling for something like this to happen when someone is just trying to earn a living.”
