No one was injured in the incident, but detectives say staff were left shaken and with ‘psychological scars’.

They are looking to speak to any witnesses as they try to trace the man wanted in connection with the robbery - who was wearing a grey hoodie.

The man is described as around 5ft 10ins tall and of thin build.

He was wearing gloves, had covered his face with a black scarf and spoke with a local accent.

Insp Nick Butler, of Hucknall Police, said: “This was a shocking attack on a small shop at the centre of our community.

“Although no-one was physically injured, the psychological scars that this attack leaves can not be underestimated and will have an effect on the staff and the community for some time.

“My officers are working around the clock to catch the culprit and I want to urge anyone who recognises this distinctive clothing and knows someone who owns it to get in touch.”

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or has any information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 729 of 12 January.
