A MAN has been given a suspended sentence after threatening a police officer in a Langwith street.

The incident took place after a male was arrested for setting fire to an object in the road on 9th January.

Simon Binfield intervened and shouted to a sergeant: “I’ll knock your head off - me and you - one on one.”

Mike Treharne, prosecuting, said the officer was not in uniform but he produced his warrant card during the arrest.

Binfield (39) of George Street, Whaley Thorns, admitted using threatening behaviour.

Jon Barber, defending said: “It was stupid behaviour.”

Binfield received an eight-week jail term but it was suspended for a year. He was also given a 9pm-7am curfew for eight weeks.
