Jail term for Mansfield disability benefit cheat filmed playing golf

A MANSFIELD man who was secretly filmed playing golf while claiming disability benefits has been jailed for four months.

A judge at Nottingham Crown Court told Robert Cave (50), of Cotswold Grove, that he was a ‘thorough liar and cheat’.

The court was told that Cave had a degenerative knee condition but he had worked as a miner for some years.

He admitted failing to notify an improvement in his capabilities between April 2006 and January 2010.

He was overpaid £12,500 in disability living allowance.

Judge Andrew Hamilton told him: “This is one of the worst cases of someone flagrantly claiming benefits to which they are not entitled and enjoying themselves playing golf to a high standard.”
