Hundreds turn out for paedophile protest

Hundreds turned out in Nottingham city centre at the weekend to protest about historic child sex abuse at care homes across the county.

Organised by former Forest Town man and abuse victim Mickey Summers, between 200 and 300 people joined the protest in Old Market Square where they waved placards and used a megaphone to get their message across.

Mickey, who is now in his 60s and was abused in care when he was 12, is leading the call for an independent inquiry into child abuse, led by the numerous survivors who have stepped forward since he began his campaign.

He said: “It went really well, we are going to do this on the fourth Saturday of each month until we get what we want.

“Anything else would be totally unacceptable.

“We would not accept the police or council involvement.”

Nottinghamshire Police are investigating alleged abuse at children’s homes in Nottingham as part of Operation Daybreak, but have said an independent inquiry cannot take place until Daybreak is completed.
