Eighteen people arrested in drug raids across the East Midlands

Sixteen men and two women have been arrested at locations across the East Midlands in connection with the supply of controlled drugs.

The operation, co-ordinated by Derbyshire Constabulary, involved officers from the National Crime Agency, Nottinghamshire Police and Leicestershire Police.

In Derbyshire, arrests were made in Heage, Newbold, Lower Pilsley, Tupton, Wingerworth, Brimington, Chesterfield, Somercotes, Stonebroom, Swanwick and North Wingfield.

Senior Investigating Officer for the operation, Detective Inspector John Roddis, said: “This has been a lengthy investigation into what we believe is a large network of people who are dealing in Class A drugs.”

“Co-ordinated warrants were executed in this joint operation, which has been meticulously planned and we thank our colleagues from the NCA and neighbouring forces for their assistance.

“We are determined to continue our fight against organised crime groups who supply drugs and have a subsequent corrosive impact on our communities.

Ten people were arrested on Monday November 30 in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, on suspicion of conspiring to supply controlled drugs and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug. They have been questioned and released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.

Another eight people were arrested today (December 1) for similar drugs offences and will be questioned today.

Several kilos of what is believed to be controlled drugs have been seized during the course of the operation along with cash and high value vehicles.
