Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Thursday, June 19, how Alan Halfyear, 47, of Brook Drive, Chesterfield, was stopped on Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, while he was driving a Vauxhall Corsa.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Police said he smelled of alcohol and a roadside breath test recorded 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath which was over the legal limit of 35.”

Halfyear, who is of previous good character, pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after the incident in October.

Robert Sowter, defending, said Halfyear wanted to take a drink-driver’s course. Magistrates fined Halfyear £395 fine and ordered him to pay £200 costs and a £40 victim surcharge. He was banned from driving for 15 months.
