Scott Carver, 24, Fairholme Drive, admitted to driving his Fiat Punto on Leeming Lane after he had been out drinking with friends on Friday, October 9.

Mansfield Magistrates’ Court heard how Carver was stopped by police just after 1am, when he had only been driving about 50 yards since he left the pub.

The prosecution solicitor, Lee Shepherd, said officers pulled Carver over after they saw him driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street.

Mr Shepherd added that they then made Carver do a roadside breath test, where he was found to have 73 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35 mcgs.

James Whyley, defending, said appearing in court yesterday (October 28) was a “very sad day” for Carver.

Mr Whyley said: “He had been to town to meet a few friends and parked up his car intending to go for a quick drink.

“And as you hear far too often, he made a very disastrous decision that he was ok to drive home.

“He only drove about 50 yards before he was caught by the police.”

Carver, who previously held a clean driving license, was given an 18 month driving ban.

He was ordered to pay a £250 fine and £260 in court costs.
