A man who assaulted his partner and damaged a microwave after a row has been given 150 hours’ unpaid work.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard last Wednesday how Stephen Newton, 36, of Portland Avenue, Creswell, threw a microwave which landed on his partner’s foot and as he slammed his hand down on a kitchen top he caught her hand. Newton admitted assault and criminal damage after the incident in March. Felicity Clarke, defending, said there was no disputing the account. Newton got a community order until May 2016 with 150 hours’ unpaid work. He must pay £195 in compensation, a surcharge and costs.
