A thug assaulted his partner while she was holding their 18-month-old son.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, January 15, how Daniel Zaman, 26, of Elmton Road, Creswell, admitted assaulting his partner after a night-out.
Prosecuting solicitor Angela Hadfield said: “The couple has been in a relationship for four years and they have a child who was born in July 2013 and Zaman’s partner has a six-year-old child from a previous relationship.
“Zaman went drinking and stayed at a friend’s house and during the night the couple had been arguing by text messages.
“The defendant returned home and he was woken by his partner in the morning. During this argument he said, “give me my son,” and he then pulled his partner’s hair and back-handed her across the face causing her to nearly drop the youngster. I believe the other child was present.”
Mrs Hadfield also told the court that Zaman’s partner suffered reddening to her face and discomfort.
Zaman pleaded guilty to committing assault by beating after the incident on December 21.
Defence solicitor Felicity Clarke said: “The defendant has entered a guilty plea at the first opportunity and he said he did not mean to hurt his partner and he had not used a great deal of force.”
Magistrates adjourned the case for a further hearing at Chesterfield magistrates’ court on Wednesday, February 4.
Zaman was released on conditional bail until the next hearing on the grounds he does not contact his partner except by a third party and he does not attend her address in Creswell.
