Charity shop ransacked by thieves

Staff at a Kirkby charity shop have been left devastated after burglars smashed their way into the store and stole a safe containing cash.

Police are investigating after the offenders broke into the Headway charity shop, on Station Street, some time between the shop closing at 5pm on Tuesday (2nd September) and when staff arrived the next morning.

Manager Tracey Iliffe was shocked to discover that the thieves had broken in through the shop’s ceiling to evade security measures, leaving plaster littered across the floor and causing around £400 worth of damage.

They also trashed the shop’s office before stealing a safe containing almost £100.

“We are all absolutely devastated,” said Tracey.

“They even took our charity donation box. It is difficult to believe that someone could be so cruel as to vandalise and steal from a charity shop.”

Headway helps people rebuild their lives following brain injury and the break-in has put strain on the shop’s funds.

Tracey added: ““We are determined to keep the shop running and come back from this demoralising incident.

“The shop is open as usual and we can guarantee a very warm welcome to anyone who visits us to shop, browse or donate some much-needed stock.”
